Intro

Hello and welcome! My name is LaJoya McDonald. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Tennessee, where I’ve dedicated my career to supporting individuals through life’s challenges with empathy, respect, and collaboration. What drives me as a provider is the deep belief that healing happens in safe, nonjudgmental spaces where people feel truly seen and heard. I am passionate about empowering others to discover their strengths, build resilience, and move toward meaningful change. Whether I’m working with someone experiencing grief, trauma, anxiety, or navigating life transitions, I strive to create a supportive environment rooted in trust and authenticity. Being a part of someone’s journey toward healing and growth is not only a privilege, tt’s what fuels my commitment to this work every day.

What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for working with autistic and neurodivergent clients comes from a strong belief in the power of understanding, acceptance, and individualized support. I’ve always been drawn to working with people who see and experience the world differently, and I deeply value the unique insights, creativity, and strengths that neurodivergent individuals bring. My goal is to create a safe, affirming space where clients feel genuinely seen and supported without pressure to mask or conform. I am committed to meeting each person where they are, helping them navigate challenges, celebrate their identities, and build a life that feels meaningful on their own terms.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I bring an affirming and strengths-based approach to my work by honoring each client’s individuality and focusing on what makes them resilient, capable, and unique. Rather than centering on deficits or trying to “fix” challenges, I work alongside clients to recognize the power in who they are and build on their existing strengths. My approach is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and respect creating a therapeutic space where clients can feel safe, understood, and affirmed in their identities. As a provider who is also part of the Black community, I understand the importance of culturally responsive care and strive to ensure that my work reflects the diverse lived experiences of the clients I serve. Together, we work toward growth that feels authentic and empowering.
