Intro

Hello! My name is Debra, and I am a Mental Health Counselor licensed in New York state. I have worked in the mental health field since 2007 and have experience in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, group-based practices, and the Job Corps educational system. I identify as neurodivergent and over the course of my career have honed my skills to focus on treatment and support of fellow neurodivergent individuals.

What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My passion for working with autistic clients developed due to my work in various agencies and educational systems where neurodivergent individuals were underserved due to a lack of knowledge and a lack of understanding on how to support their individual needs. I understand the challenges faced when trying to navigate a world that is not accommodating to you, and I hope in my role with Prosper Health, I can help you to overcome these challenges and gain insight into how to advocate for your needs and increase your comfort, while embracing your authentic self.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I decided to focus my therapeutic craft toward the service of autistic clients as I myself rage against the “norms” of society and feel neurodivergent individuals are often faced with criticism for being different. I think it’s important to highlight the benefits of neurodiversity and celebrate the amazing strengths of seeing and functioning in the world in a unique way. I aim to help and support you by assisting you with developing skills to effectively manage life challenges you face, while also identifying and celebrating who you are.
