Hi, I'm Brittany Allen, a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology practicing in Texas. I previously worked in the public school system with individuals ranging from 2 to 22 years old. Throughout this experience, I observed how frequently autism traits go unrecognized, and are sometimes misattributed as symptoms of mental health conditions. After transitioning to health centers to work with autistic individuals of all ages, I aimed to assist my clients in identifying their unique traits, recognizing their strengths, and validating their concerns and experiences.
After working with autistic children for 5 years, I discovered a deep appreciation for their honesty, sincerity, and genuine expressions that fostered deeper connections. I find immense joy in working with autistic individuals because they are authentically themselves without any pretense. These interactions are not only rewarding but also a constant reminder of the beauty in embracing one's true self.
As a psychologist, I approach evaluations of autistic individuals with a strengths-based perspective, focusing on their unique talents, interests, and abilities. As a neurotypical person, I admire the many benefits of neurodivergence and can sometimes feel envious of them. I want to collaborate with my clients to recognize and harness those strengths, to identify areas where they are uniquely gifted, and to use those strengths to empower them in navigating challenges, building resilience, and thriving in their own way.
