About
Hello, I’m Dr. Allison Williams, a licensed psychologist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with people whose experiences don’t always fit neatly into familiar explanations. I value taking the time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and understand the fuller picture of your life. If you’re exploring whether you may be autistic, you may arrive with questions, uncertainty, or a sense that parts of your experience have gone unrecognized. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we meet. My goal is to make the assessment process collaborative, respectful, and useful as you develop a clearer understanding of yourself.
My interest in working with autistic and neurodivergent adults is both professional and personal. Neurodivergence is part of my immediate family’s experience, which adds personal meaning to this work while reminding me that no two people’s experiences are the same. Throughout my career in psychology, I’ve valued looking beyond labels and assumptions to understand how people think, connect, and navigate daily life. I’m drawn to helping you explore patterns that may not have been fully understood before, including the effort involved in meeting expectations that may not fit your needs. I want your assessment to offer thoughtful clarity and language for understanding your experiences, strengths, and support needs.
I approach assessment as a partnership: you bring expertise in your lived experience, and I bring clinical knowledge, careful listening, and thoughtful questions. Together, we explore your strengths, interests, relationships, and ways of communicating and processing the world, while also making room for experiences that have been difficult or exhausting. A strengths-based approach should never mean minimizing your challenges or support needs.
I welcome clients of all cultural backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations, including transgender and nonbinary adults. I respect your name, pronouns, and the language you use to describe yourself. You don’t need to perform a particular version of yourself for me. I aim to create space for honest conversation, questions, and a pace that supports your participation, with conclusions grounded in both your experiences and a thorough assessment.
