About
Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Yesel Yoon, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist currently living in Maryland and licensed in New York. Seeking an evaluation or starting therapy is a big decision, and I'm glad you're here. My goal is to provide a space where you can openly share your experiences. I want you to walk away from our work together with the skills and resources you need to live as a more confident, self-assured neurodivergent person. I’m looking forward to connecting with you and helping you deepen your understanding of your strengths and needs. In my personal time, I like rock climbing, listening to podcasts, and solving NYT puzzles.
I've seen firsthand, both professionally and personally, how much affirming therapy and assessment can change someone's life. This motivates me to help autistic and neurodivergent people accept themselves and advocate for what they need to live in line with their values. My work is also how I try to push back against ableism and the lack of access to good, affirming care.
I lead with your inherent strengths as opposed to coming from a deficit or pathologizing model. I work on reframing what might look like a 'challenge' as a way you learned to cope or survive in a world that wasn't built for you. As an Asian American queer woman, I value the power of being listened to and seen more fully for who I am, not the mere assumptions society has scripted for me. I bring this perspective into the work with my clients. I believe culture and societal expectations shape our lived experience, so I take time to ask how things like family expectations or masking show up for you.
