About

Hello and welcome. I'm Dr. William Futtersak, a psychologist licensed in North Carolina and New York. I'm also PSYPACT certified to deliver telehealth services in participating states. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of helping people develop a deeper understanding of themselves and gain greater confidence to meet life's challenges. I believe that we each have unique strengths and personal passions that deserve to be understood and embraced. Yet, too often, we find ourselves trying to live according to expectations that don't truly reflect who we are. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment in which you will be able to express what matters to you most and gain greater clarity about who you genuinely are. I believe that with greater self knowledge, we each become more accepting of ourselves, more committed to our personal pursuits, and more comfortable and confident moving through the world around us.

Education & Licensure

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for working with autistic adults begins with my deep sense of wonder and respect for human individualism—the belief that every person is unique and deserves to be heard, understood, and supported as they shape their own life path. Throughout my career as a psychologist, I have met many autistic adults whose needs were overlooked within the mental health system or whose experiences were misunderstood, leading to misdiagnosis and treatment goals that were inappropriate and ultimately frustrating and ineffective. My goal is to help address this issue by providing an environment for autistic adults that is safe and affirming and encourages curiosity, open dialogue, and honest exploration. I believe that each of us deserve the opportunity to be heard and to be understood and to better appreciate our true selves rather than be pressured to conform to expectations that may not fit our lives or our identities.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

While my training and experience as a psychologist provide the basis for the work that I do, I believe that it is equally important that I meet my clients as a fellow human being--with empathy, compassion, and genuine curiosity. After all, the purpose of a meaningful psychological assessment is not merely to label, but to reveal and affirm an individual's personal strengths and characteristics to be further encouraged and built upon. With this in mind, I strive to create an environment that is safe, open-minded, affirming, and respectful of each person's unique experience. I genuinely enjoy meeting my clients and finding out who they really are. In the work the important we will do together, I want you to be free to explore who you are with honesty, confidence, and hope.
