About

Welcome! My name is Wayne, and I'm a psychologist. More to the point, I'm a person. And I happen to be a person who is credentialed as a psychologist. I learned a lot of things in school and during my career. But my genuine concern for people is part of who I am, not something I learned from a book. I am happy to be on a first-name basis. Some people are not entirely comfortable with that, so you can call me Dr. Wayne if you prefer. I live in the Tampa Bay, Florida area, but I come from New England. I am licensed in Florida and Connecticut. It's important to me to always see you as a real person, with more experiences and emotions than you can possibly express. It's my job to try to create a safe space so you will help me to understand you. Let's begin.

Education & Licensure
Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Alfred University; Master of Science and Professional Diploma for Advanced Study in school psychology from the University of Bridgeport; and PhD in educational psychology from the University of Connecticut.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Growing up as part of an ethnic minority, I was always "the other." In retrospect, this was good training for learning to respect differences and find value in them. People whom we describe as neurodivergent can have certain strengths of great social value, if we would just identify and cultivate those strengths.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

All of my work is based on my desire to truly listen and understand the person I am speaking to. I consider that person, whoever it may be, to be unique and independent -- not an extension of myself. This requires me to set aside my own needs and opinions to hear and accurately understand the other person. I have had a lifelong interest in science, which brought me, about twenty years ago, into the amateur radio community. Ham radio operators are interested in science and engineering, and the neurodivergence of some of them adds to their technical expertise.
