About
Hi! I’m Dr. Virna Merino, a Clinical Psychologist licensed in California. My career has been guided by a deep appreciation for the diversity of human experience and a commitment to impactful diagnostic clarity. My background—from leading multidisciplinary teams at the County of Ventura to founding my own private practice—has taught me that the most important part of any evaluation is seeing the person behind the data. As a fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Latine clinician, I am dedicated to providing culturally resonant care that replaces the traditional clinical hierarchy with a true partnership. I am personally invested in ensuring your assessment is thorough, accurate, and transformative.
My motivation is both professional and deeply personal. As a neurodivergent clinician myself (ADHD), I know what it’s like to navigate a world that wasn't built for the way our brains work. I am particularly passionate about supporting those within the Latine and LGBTQ+ communities and those who have been overlooked because their unique neurodivergence doesn't fit a 'textbook' stereotype. I chose this specialty because I believe a diagnosis shouldn't be a label used to limit you; it should be a tool used to foster self-compassion and belonging. I am here to walk alongside you as we acknowledge and honor the person you have always truly been.
I see autism as a natural and valuable variation in how we process the world. Because I am a therapist as well as an assessor, I prioritize your safety and comfort above all else. My goal is to facilitate a process of 'collaborative discovery'—holding a space where we can honor your true, unmasked self. Together, we identify your strengths and sensory needs, co-creating a roadmap that empowers you to advocate for—and shape—an environment where you can truly thrive.
