About

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my bio! My name is Dr. Victoria (Cefaratti) Miller, which is a lot, so calling me by my first name or just Dr Miller is perfectly fine.  I hope to make this a comfortable experience for you.  I am licensed in New Jersey and New York, and I have over 22 years experience in my field.  Individuals who work with me would tell you my approach is to engage individuals interactively to establish comfortable communication and collaboration towards solutions . If you choose to work with me, I will try my best to gear my time with you to your specific needs and curiosities about yourself, and I will do my best to try to guide you as you explore your personal journey.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Clinical & School Psychology from Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY; Masters of Psychology from Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY; Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Sciences/Psychology from The University of Chicago, Chicago, IL.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I have grown accustomed to working with neurodivergent individuals over the years, initially through my early career with children and teens though with neurodevelopmental pediatric specialists in hospital settings and with child study teams.  In the past two decades, I have worked with adult patients clinically as well as with disability claimants, many of whom became aware of their neurodivergence as adults, and have sought affirmation of this diagnosis, always suspecting earlier in their lives that something had been "missed." There is a sense of relief and closure that can come from helping someone find that last piece of the puzzle!

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I have an adult child whose father is on the spectrum.  This has given me a personal glimpse into how each individual works to navigate certain hurdles, despite having tremendous character and intelligence. I believe it is essential to help those with ASD learn to feel empowered by affirming one's assets and by helping one learn to self-advocate for acceptance from others in a world that is not always entirely understanding or accepting of neurodiversity. I am a firm believer that education can help bridge the gap towards acceptance, because understanding something makes it less unsettling.
