About

Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Verena Harter, a licensed psychologist based in Southlake, Texas. I specialize in autism assessment and am passionate about helping individuals and families gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their unique experiences. I believe an autism evaluation should be a thoughtful, respectful, and individualized process—not simply about assigning a diagnosis, but about understanding the whole person. My goal is to create a comfortable space where you feel heard, understood, and able to share your experiences openly.

Education & Licensure
Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University, Dallas; M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University, Dallas; B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Texas, Denton, TX.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My passion for working with autistic and neurodivergent individuals comes from a deep belief that understanding can be incredibly empowering. I’ve seen how gaining a better understanding of the way a person thinks, experiences the world, and interacts with others can bring clarity and validation—sometimes after years of feeling misunderstood. I’m drawn to autism assessment because I enjoy looking beyond surface-level behaviors to understand the whole person. I believe every individual has their own unique strengths, experiences, and ways of navigating the world, and my goal is to provide an evaluation experience that is respectful, collaborative, and affirming.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I bring a compassionate, affirming, and strength-based perspective to every autism evaluation. I believe assessment should focus not only on areas of difficulty, but also on understanding an individual’s unique strengths, interests, perspectives, and ways of experiencing the world. I strive to create a space where clients feel respected, comfortable, and free to be themselves. I take time to listen to each person’s experiences and consider the individual within the context of their family, relationships, work or school, and everyday life. My goal is to provide a balanced understanding that recognizes both strengths and areas where additional support or accommodations may be helpful. I believe greater self-understanding can be empowering, and I want clients to leave the evaluation with greater clarity, validation, and understanding of themselves.
