About

Hello and welcome. I’m Dr. Tara Meskowsky, a licensed clinical psychologist in California, and I’m so glad you’re here. I have been working with neurodivergent individuals since 2001, and supporting this community has been one of the most meaningful parts of my career. I bring a warm, thoughtful, and compassionate approach to my work, and I believe deeply in creating a space where people feel comfortable, respected, and truly understood. For many individuals, seeking an autism evaluation comes after years of feeling different, misunderstood, or out of step with those around them. It often follows a long history of wondering why everyday interactions felt harder than they seemed for others, why they felt they had to mask so much of who they were, or why they never quite felt fully understood or at ease in the world. I feel honored to help provide clarity, validation, and a deeper understanding of each person’s unique strengths and experiences.

Education & Licensure

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My decision to specialize in working with autistic and neurodivergent individuals comes from both deep respect for neurodiversity and decades of meaningful clinical experience. For the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of working with neurodiversity across the lifespan, and that work has shaped me both professionally and personally. I have seen how often neurodivergent people are misunderstood, overlooked, or viewed primarily through the lens of what is “wrong,” rather than being recognized for their strengths, insight, individuality, and resilience. What continues to draw me to this work is the opportunity to help people feel seen and understood in a more complete and affirming way. I care deeply about creating a compassionate, respectful process that honors each person’s unique way of thinking, feeling, communicating, and moving through the world. My goal is not simply to identify challenges, but to help individuals better understand themselves, build on their strengths, and feel more supported in living authentically.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I bring an affirming and strengths-based approach to my work by taking time to understand the whole person, not just the concerns that brought them in. I believe neurodivergent individuals have unique strengths, perspectives, and personal ways of experiencing and interacting with the world that deserve to be recognized and respected. My role is not to pathologize difference, but to help people better understand themselves in a way that feels validating, useful, and empowering. In my work, I focus on identifying and building upon each individual’s strengths while also recognizing the very real challenges that can come from living in environments that may not always understand or support neurodivergence. I strive to create a compassionate, respectful space where clients feel safe being themselves, feel heard without judgment, and leave with a greater sense of clarity, self-understanding, and confidence in who they are.
