About
Hello and welcome. I'm Dr. Suie Chang (Ngai). I'm a licensed psychologist in Washington state. I am also licensed by PSYPACT which allows me to provided services across 40+ states. I have worked in a variety of settings including private practice, children’s residential care, community mental health, a university counseling center, and the WA Department of Corrections. I have a special interest in working with neurodivergent individuals and individuals of the Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, particularly those who identify as first generation or 1.5 generation.
My motivation for working with neurodivergent adults is rooted in both personal and professional experiences. Barriers such as long waitlists, cost, and limited resources often make assessment and mental health services difficult to access. Assessment can offer insight and clarity for clients who have often felt misunderstood or unsure about their struggles. That clarity can foster self-acceptance, empowerment, and greater confidence in day-to-day life.
I bring a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach by recognizing the valuable differences that exist within the natural variation of human experience. A mismatch between external expectations and personal needs can often result in negative feedback and experiences for neurodivergent individuals. As an assessment psychologist, my goal is to help clients identify their personal strengths and highlight how those strengths can support their goals. I believe that self-understanding is a powerful tool for building self-acceptance and empowerment.
