Greetings. I’m Dr Steve Hawley, PsyD HSPP. I’m a psychologist currently licensed for in person work in Indiana, as well as for virtual work in other/PsyPact states. My areas of specialization include psychological assessment and diagnostics. My goal is to help people find a deeper understanding of themselves and how they fit into the world.
General psychological assessment has been an area of specialty in my practice, but I’ve found this work to be especially rewarding when helping adults who may have been coping with symptoms for years without a formal diagnosis. The diagnosis process is not about getting an excuse, but about increasing understanding and helping the person to identify their individual strengths and weaknesses to get the most out of their capabilities.
I strive to help each person take advantage of their individual strengths to be the best version of them they can be. I do this through actively listening and striving to view each person as an individual. As part of my doctorate, I completed a dissertation titled “The Depictions of Mental Illness in Batman Comic Books”. I was drawn to this study to bring greater awareness to the ways in which inaccurate portrayals of mental health struggles can stigmatize the people experiencing them. A diagnosis can help us understand a person, but no person is solely their diagnosis.
