About
If you're here, you're probably looking for answers about how your mind works, and possibly carrying something you've wondered about for a long time. I'm Dr. Shenell Evans, a licensed clinical psychologist based in Hawai'i and licensed in Hawai'i and New York, and I'd be honored to help you find them. For over a decade, I've worked alongside people navigating life-changing challenges, always with deep respect for the whole person in front of me: their culture, their context, their history, and their strengths. I believe assessment should be a place where you feel genuinely seen, not reduced to a checklist. My aim is to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are and leave with clarity that actually serves you.
I'm drawn to this work because I believe deeply in the dignity of different minds. Much of my career has centered on people whose experiences were overlooked, misread, or misunderstood by systems that weren't built for them. Neurodivergent people often know that experience intimately. I want to be part of changing it, offering assessment that doesn't pathologize who you are but illuminates how you're wired, so you can understand yourself with more compassion and move through the world with more support. Clarity can be a profound relief, and I consider it an honor to offer it.
My approach is affirming and strengths-based at its core. I don't see neurodivergence as something to be fixed. I see a person with a particular way of experiencing the world, with real strengths alongside real challenges. I listen closely, and I validate your experience rather than questioning it. As a Black woman and a psychologist who has spent my career centering culturally responsive care, I understand what it means to be evaluated by systems that didn't have you in mind, and I bring that awareness into our work together, so you feel respected, believed, and understood throughout the process.
