About
Hi, I’m Dr. Shelter Dziya. I’m licensed in Virginia, and I obtained my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Community Psychology from an honors university in Maryland. I am passionate about helping folks navigate life’s struggles with courage and confidence. In our work together, I want you to feel not only supported but also empowered. My role is to walk with you as you uncover strengths you may not realize you already have, build new tools for resilience, and take practical steps toward the change you long for. You don’t have to journey alone. I’m here to help you move forward with hope.
I was drawn to this work because the creativity, insight, and resilience of autistic and neurodivergent persons continually inspire me. I want you to know that your strengths are real, powerful, and worthy of being celebrated. My passion is to help you recognize those strengths, find strategies that work for your life, and support you in building meaningful connections. Together, we’ll focus on creating a path where you feel confident, supported, and free to live authentically.
I practice from a strengths-based perspective because you are more than your struggles; you are gifted, resourceful, and capable of growth. My approach emphasizes compassion, affirmation, and creating a space where you can show up as your whole self. If it’s meaningful to you, I also bring the lens of my own lived experience as a Black woman, which deepens my understanding of the importance of identity, belonging, and representation in the healing process.
