About
Hi and congrats on taking this step! My name is Dr. Shelee (pronounced Shelly) and I’m a Michigan-licensed Psychologist. I approach autism evaluations as an opportunity for you to better understand yourself. I strive to create an affirming space where you feel seen, heard, and understood throughout the testing process. I also recognize that who you are cannot be separated from the cultural, relational, and systemic contexts that have shaped how you experience and navigate the world. Whether or not your evaluation results in an autism diagnosis, my hope is that you leave with greater clarity, language for experiences you may have struggled to name, and knowledge that strengthens your sense of self-understanding and supports you in making more informed and empowered choices in/about your life.
My professional interests have often been shaped by my personal experiences. After one of my children was diagnosed with ADHD at 10 and my twins were diagnosed with autism at 2, I found myself looking more closely at neurodivergence, not only as a psychologist, but within my own life. That eventually led me to pursue late-diagnosis testing for myself.
Because so much of my work has centered on identity and the patterns we inherit, learn, and carry with us, I became especially drawn to what happens when neurodivergence is part of that story but goes unrecognized. I’m particularly drawn to creating space for the many adults, especially women, who have spent years making sense of themselves without this piece of the puzzle, and what that can mean for how they understand their needs, their relationships, their capacity, and even who they believe themselves to be. This work feels like a natural extension of what has always mattered to me: helping people make sense of their experiences with greater compassion, understand themselves more fully, and have more agency in the lives they create.
If you’re seeking an autism evaluation as an adult, you may have spent years trying to make sense of parts of yourself or your experiences but maybe never quite had language that seemed to fit. I want the evaluation process to be a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I take an affirming approach that considers the whole of who you are, including the cultural and systemic contexts that shape how you move through the world.
