Shalena Wade
About
Hello, and thank you for considering me as a partner in your assessment journey. My name is Shalena Wade, and I am based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and licensed as a clinical psychologist in the state of Maryland. I am deeply committed to supporting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds as they engage in the process of self-discovery. Throughout our work together, I strive to provide clarity, encouragement, and empowerment in a thoughtful and intentional manner. I prioritize creating a warm, welcoming environment where you can feel safe, seen, and heard. I approach this work collaboratively and am dedicated to walking alongside you as we explore your experiences and develop the insights needed to guide your next steps.
I was drawn to specialize in adult assessment after seeing how difficult it can be for older teens and adults to access clear, affirming answers about their experiences. Early in my work, I had the privilege of supporting young adults seeking clarity around ADHD and autism—sometimes for the first time, and sometimes through a second opinion. Witnessing the relief and self-understanding that came with those evaluations was incredibly meaningful to me. These experiences inspired me to pursue advanced training in this area, and I now feel deeply committed to providing thoughtful, compassionate assessments that help clients feel seen, validated, and empowered. I aim to be a supportive resource for adults seeking clarity through comprehensive and affirming evaluation services. As well as for professionals seeking training and consultation in this area as well.
My approach to clinical work is grounded in recognizing and building upon each individual’s inherent strengths rather than centering challenges or deficits. I am deeply committed to helping clients make sense of their lived experiences in a way that honors their resilience, insight, and capacity for growth. Through a lens of compassion and affirmation, I strive to create a supportive environment where clients feel seen, valued, and empowered to define and pursue their fullest potential. By fostering a collaborative and strengths-based process, I guide clients in reframing their narratives, cultivating self-awareness, and developing tools that align with who they are and who they aspire to become. My identity as an African American woman and a first-generation college student further informs my work. These lived experiences shape my sensitivity to the complexities of cultural identity, systemic barriers, and the importance of representation. They also deepen my commitment to providing culturally responsive, affirming care that honors each client’s unique background while supporting their journey toward empowerment and self-actualization.
