About
Hello, I'm Sekelya Holmes, a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Alabama and licensed to provide services in Alabama and Florida. For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals and families through life's challenges, including trauma, grief, mental health concerns, substance use, relationship struggles, and major life transitions.
What drew me to this work is I genuinely care about people. I have always been passionate about helping others recognize their worth, discover their strengths, and move toward the life they desire. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves without fear of judgment.
My professional background includes community mental health, crisis intervention, developmental disability services, substance use treatment, telehealth counseling, group facilitation, and education. These experiences have allowed me to work with individuals from many different backgrounds and have reinforced my belief that every person deserves support that honors their unique experiences, strengths, and goals.
Throughout my career, I have found myself drawn to working with individuals who may feel misunderstood, overlooked, or unseen. Whether I was supporting youth in residential care, individuals with developmental disabilities, people navigating mental health challenges, or those experiencing significant life transitions, I witnessed the powerful impact that acceptance, understanding, and genuine connection can have on a person's wellbeing.
My interest in working with autistic and neurodivergent adults comes from that same place. I recognize that many neurodivergent individuals have spent much of their lives adapting to environments that were not designed with their needs, strengths, or ways of experiencing the world in mind. I am passionate about creating a therapeutic space where clients feel affirmed, respected, and supported as they better understand themselves and navigate life's challenges.
What inspires me most is helping people move from self-doubt to self-acceptance, from simply coping to truly thriving. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to feel valued, understood, and empowered to live a life that reflects who they are and not who others expect them to be.
One of the things I love most about being a therapist is helping people recognize strengths they may not see in themselves. Too often, individuals come to therapy focused on what they believe is wrong with them, what they need to fix, or where they feel they have fallen short. My approach is different.
I believe every person possesses strengths, resilience, and unique qualities that deserve to be recognized and nurtured. Rather than focusing solely on challenges, I work collaboratively with clients to identify what is already working, build upon their existing strengths, and develop practical tools that support growth and wellbeing.
My counseling style is warm, authentic, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I strive to meet people where they are while honoring their individual experiences, identities, values, and goals. I approach therapy with transparency, compassion, and respect. I strive to create an authentic space where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences, recognizing their strengths, and defining success on their own terms. I recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all path to healing and growth, and I work collaboratively with each client to support their unique journey.
Ultimately, my goal is to help clients feel empowered to embrace who they are, trust themselves, build confidence in their abilities, and create meaningful change in ways that align with their own values and definition of success.
