About
Hello, and welcome! I’m Dr. Sean Leonard, and I've been practicing psychology for over 20 years in Florida and New York. My work has always centered on helping thoughtful, capable adults better understand themselves, especially when they’ve felt different, misunderstood, or out of sync with the expectations around them.My goal is to create a space where you can explore your experiences without being pathologized or pressured to “fit” a mold. Many adults come to this work later in life after years of navigating systems that didn’t quite make sense for them. I see therapy and assessment as an opportunity to make sense of your story in a way that is coherent, respectful, and empowering.
I chose to work with autistic and neurodivergent adults because I’ve seen firsthand—both professionally and personally—how often strengths are misunderstood. I’m drawn to this work because I have repeatedly seen how often intelligence, insight, and creativity are misinterpreted as deficits. Many of the adults I’ve worked with are deeply reflective, analytical, and principled, yet have struggled in environments that were not built with them in mind. For many adults, seeking an evaluation or support later in life is about understanding longstanding patterns through a framework that fits. My goal is to help you understand your patterns more clearly so you can make choices that align with your values, strengths, and needs.
My approach is affirming, collaborative, and strengths-based. I focus on identifying what already works for you (your cognitive style, your interests, your problem-solving strengths) and building from there. Rather than centering deficits, I work with you to understand how your nervous system, communication style, and processing patterns interact with your environment. My role is to create and guide you through a safe discussion about your history and experiences, through careful listening, empathy, and respect for your autonomy.
