About
Hi, and welcome. I’m glad you’re here.My name is Sarhand, though some people also call me San. I am a clinical psychologist licensed in Virginia and authorized under PSYPACT, which allows me to provide telehealth services across participating states.I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Gallaudet University and completed my clinical internship at WellSpan Philhaven CBT Psychology Internship Program. I have experience providing therapy, psychological assessment, and case management for adults with a wide range of mental health needs, across community mental health centers, university counseling services, and inpatient settings.I focus my work on therapy and psychological assessment, with an emphasis on adult Autism and ADHD evaluations. I also have experience working with diverse populations, including Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and neurodivergent individuals. In my work with you, I aim to create a process that feels clear, respectful, and supportive. I use structured, evidence-based approaches while also making space for your lived experience. My goal is to help you gain meaningful insight into how you think, feel, and function so you can better understand yourself and move forward with clarity and direction.
My interest in working with neurodivergent adults developed through years of clinical experience in settings where I saw how often people were misunderstood or misdiagnosed, despite having clear patterns in how they experience the world. That stayed with me and shaped how I approach assessment work today.I value the process of examining and really understanding how someone thinks, processes information, and makes sense of their experiences over time. For many people, getting an accurate explanation for long-standing patterns can be validating and relieving, especially when they have spent years feeling “different” without clear answers. In my work, I aim to provide assessments that are careful, respectful, and clinically grounded, while also being human and approachable. My goal is to help you walk away with a clearer understanding of yourself, not just a label, so you can make more informed decisions about your life, supports, and future direction.
I bring an affirming, strengths-based approach by first trying to understand how you naturally think, process, and navigate your world. I don’t see assessment as only identifying problems, but as also recognizing the strategies, resilience, and strengths you’ve already been using, often without even realizing it.Throughout the process, I aim to create a respectful and collaborative space where your experiences are heard and taken seriously. I pay attention to both challenges and capabilities so the overall picture feels balanced and accurate. My goal is for you to leave with a clearer understanding of yourself that highlights not just what is difficult, but also what is already working well and can be built upon moving forward.
