About
Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Sarah Spurling. I currently live and work in Illinois. My style as a therapist is relational and supportive. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely understood. Our work together isn’t about fixing you or pushing you to change before you’re ready. It’s about building a trusting relationship where you can show up as yourself — without masking, having to over-explain, or having all the answers.
My motivation for working with neurodivergent adults is that I believe many of the challenges we face are not deficits, but mismatches between our nervous systems and environments that weren’t built with us in mind. Too often, neurodivergent people come to therapy carrying years of misunderstanding, masking, and internalized shame. My work centers on reducing that shame and increasing self-understanding. I provide neurodiversity-affirming care that honors sensory needs, communication styles, executive functioning differences, and authentic identity. Therapy with me is not about making you more “normal” — it’s about helping you build a life that fits your brain.
In providing neurodiversity-affirming, strength-based therapy for neurodivergent adults, I see neurodivergent traits as natural differences in how the brain works — not flaws to correct. Many of the struggles my clients carry come from years of masking, misunderstanding, and trying to fit into environments that weren’t designed with them in mind.In our work together, we focus on reducing burnout and shame, deepening self-understanding, and building practical supports that truly fit your nervous system. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to perform or mask — just a place to understand yourself more fully and move toward a life that feels sustainable and authentic.
