About

Hello. My name is Ryan Thomas, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. I have been providing outpatient therapy for over four years now, and it has allowed me to help many people work through struggles that have had a significant impact on them. After seeing the effects of mental health symptoms, as well as the potential for growth and achievement of individual goals, I am very eager to continue this journey with those who would like to work with me to improve their ability to live the life they want to live.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Everyone should have the opportunity to receive healthcare that addresses their specific needs, and that is one reason why I am so glad that I can work with autistic and neurodivergent adults. Too many struggles within this community go unnoticed and unsupported, and I hope to be a part of the change that will improve access to helpful support for everyone.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

A person-centered approach has always been important in my practice. Everyone is going to have different strengths and need different types of support, so getting to know someone and understand their personal goals is one of the most important parts of therapy. I hope that I can help people improve their mental health, and I believe that part of this involves fostering one's own uniqueness and individuality. Too many autistic and neurodivergent people have felt pressured to conform and fit into the perception of the thoughts and behavior of others around them. Losing one's individuality not only negatively impacts the individual's well-being, it also negatively impacts the rest of society. Our world needs individuals who live the life that is best for them, and there is nothing wrong with being different than any other person or group of people. I hope that utilizing a person-centered approach as part of the therapeutic process will help people love themselves, increase their confidence to conquer any challenges, and help them achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
