About
My name is Dr. Richard Espinoza, and I’m a licensed clinical psychologist based in Los Angeles, California. I work with a wide range of individuals across the lifespan, and my background includes both psychological assessment and therapy across complex and diverse populations. At the core of my work is helping you understand yourself in a clear, practical, and grounded way. I tend to approach things with curiosity, directness, and respect for how nuanced people actually are. My goal is to create a space where you can think more clearly about what’s going on, feel understood, and walk away with insights that are actually useful in your day-to-day life.
A big part of why I do this work, especially with neurodivergent and autistic clients, is because I’ve seen how often people are misdiagnosed, overlooked, or shaped by trends rather than careful clinical understanding. I highly value doing these type of evaluations. Done well, they can bring clarity, direction, and relief. Instead of guessing or following what’s popular online, we can take a step back and look at what’s actually going on for you, in a way that is thoughtful and grounded in real assessment. My work with LGBTQ+ clients also intersects quite a bit with neurodivergence. There’s a meaningful overlap there, and I’m mindful of how identity, environment, and neurocognitive patterns all interact. That allows me to approach evaluations and conversations with a broader lens, rather than viewing things in isolation.
My approach is practical, affirming, and focused on helping you make sense of yourself without reducing you to a label. I pay close attention to patterns in how you think, process, relate, and respond to the world. From there, we build on what’s already working. Even when something feels like a challenge, there’s usually a function behind it, and understanding that function is where real change starts. I aim to be both supportive and direct. You can expect me to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and give you feedback that is honest and useful. The goal is not to “fix” you, but to help you understand how you operate so you can navigate your life more effectively and with more confidence.
