Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Working with an autistic client early in my career really changed the way I think about therapy. Their insight, honesty, and way of experiencing the world pushed me to broaden my approach and become more flexible in how I communicate and support emotional regulation. It made me realize how important it is to adapt therapy to the individual rather than expect the individual to adapt to therapy. That experience inspired me to learn more about neurodivergence and deepened my appreciation for the unique perspectives neurodivergent clients bring into the therapeutic space. I value an approach that focuses on understanding and supporting how someone, rather than trying to “fix” them. I also appreciate how individualized and collaborative the work is, and I find it incredibly meaningful to help clients move toward greater self-understanding, self-advocacy, and confidence.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I try to lead with curiosity, collaboration, and a genuine belief that people already bring strengths into the room, even when they may not see them themselves. Rather than focusing only on symptoms or what is “wrong,” I work to understand a client’s experiences in context and highlight resilience, values, patterns of coping, insight, and areas of growth. I aim to create a space where clients feel understood and affirmed in who they are, while also adapting my approach to their individual needs, goals, and ways of processing the world. For me, an affirming, strengths-based approach means helping people build on what already works, develop self-understanding, and feel more empowered in navigating challenges.
