About

Hi, I’m Rachel Tyrrell, LMHC, a therapist based and licensed in Massachusetts specializing in trauma, anxiety, life transitions, empowerment, and neurodivergent-affirming care for adolescents and adults. For over a decade, my work has been rooted in compassion, authenticity, and the belief that healing is not about “fixing” who you are — it’s about building a life that works with your nervous system, strengths, values, and needs instead of constantly fighting against them.I work with people carrying big responsibilities, deep stories, burnout, grief, relationship struggles, addiction, identity questions, and the feeling that life has become heavy, overwhelming, or disconnected. Many of my clients are autistic, ADHD, highly sensitive, high-masking, or navigating the complicated reality of trying to function in environments that were never built for the way their brains work.

Education & Licensure
MA in Mental Health Counseling from University of Massachusetts, Boston; BS in Business Communication with Minor in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester, NH
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

This work is both professional and personal for me. I’m neurodivergent myself, as are many of the people I love most. I know how exhausting it can be to spend years feeling misunderstood, pressured to fit expectations that never truly fit, or constantly trying to hold yourself together through masking, overcompensating, or self-criticism. I’m passionate about helping clients recognize that needing accommodations, support, structure, or different ways of doing things does not make them broken, weak, or incapable. It is my honor and privilege to support clients as they work towards their goals and step into the fullest versions of themselves.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

There’s nothing too messy, complicated, dark, or overwhelming to talk about here. You do not need to show up polished or perfect. Come as you are — I’ll meet you there. My style is warm, direct, collaborative, and unfussy. I blend evidence-based and holistic approaches, including CBT, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered work, while tailoring treatment to each individual client. I believe growth comes from balance. Therapy is not just about setting boundaries and advocating to changing the world around you — it’s also about building the internal tools, self-awareness, confidence, and emotional resilience needed to regulate your nervous system, and create a life that feels sustainable and fulfilling long-term.
