About

Hi! My name is Phyllis Williams. I am a licensed therapist in the state of Georgia and New York. I am passionate about helping others and guiding individuals to feel their best confident self. As a clinician and client myself, I believe that healing does not have to look magical or pretty. Real healing is hard, exhausting, scary and draining. The best part about being in therapy is that you do not have to do it alone. We will work together as a team to achieve your goals for greater mental health stability. The hard work begins when you leave my office. With my support, I strive for my clients to independently utilize healthy coping skills learned in sessions to apply upon daily interaction with others & themselves. I aim to provide effective treatment to clients while exploring the underlying causes of each client’s mental health concerns.

Education & Licensure
Bachelors in Psychology at Hunter College-CUNY Master of Science in Education in Mental Health Counseling.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation to work with individuals with autism stems from my personal experience as a neurodivergent therapist. Individuals with autism/neurodivergence are usually misunderstood. You sometimes feel different from others and judged by others because you are unique. Being neurodivergent is not a curse. It is not a hindrance. It solely means you have a superpower that sometimes needs refinement. If you tap deep enough into your strengths, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. My goal is to help clients navigate challenges, build on their strengths, and develop skills that enhance their daily lives and relationships. Together, we can work toward a life that makes you feel understood, supported, and successful.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I utilize an affirming, challenging and strengths-based approach in treatment to ensure that every individual feels seen, valued, and empowered. I utilize an integrative approach to therapy by applying a combination of therapeutic strategies to fit the individualized needs of my clients. I believe that each client possesses unique strengths and abilities that can be harnessed to navigate challenges and achieve personal goals. I actively listen to their experiences and validate their feelings, creating a safe space where they can express themselves authentically.
