Nathan Strickland
About
Hello, and thank you for clicking on my provider profile! My name is Nathan and I am a clinical mental health counselor licensed and residing in Tennessee. My experience as a therapist covers a wide range of settings and presenting concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief, self-esteem, relationships, and communication. I employ a client-centered, strengths-based approach to therapy, recognizing that the diverse strengths and obstacles faced by neurodiverse people require individualized strategies, rather than one-size-fits-all interventions. Personally, I am a nerdy fellow who enjoys gaming, playing with my pets, and spending time with family and friends.
I have personal ties to neurodiversity, as some of my closest loved ones are neurodiverse. This personal connection, along with my professional experiences of witnessing problems of limited access to neurodiversity-affirming care, has led me to focus my clinical work on forming therapeutic relationships that celebrate diversity and inclusion.
I approach therapy with neurodiverse clients by mindfully observing differences as meaningful variations, rather than as deficits. I will collaborate with you to understand what already supports you, what drains you, and what matters most to you. You and I will work together to establish goals grounded in your values, leading us to build on your existing strengths, figure out practical interventions, develop greater self-awareness, and practice self-advocacy.
