About

Hello, and congratulations on your continued journey of self-exploration!  My name is Dr. Gouge and I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist residing in beautiful east Tennessee.  I have been working with neurodiverse individuals across the lifespan since the early 2000s, and am especially passionate about access to care, diagnostic clarity, and inclusive approaches for strengths-focused services.  I have a longstanding commitment to working with and advocating for individuals with various intersections of Autism and gender/sexual diversity, including training specific to Autism in women and among trans folks.  I have been specializing in Autism telehealth evaluations since 2020 and look forward to creating an affirming and informative experience for you.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Clinical Psychology from East Tennessee State University; Certificate of Interdisciplinary Care in Developmental Disabilities from University of Nebraska Medical Center
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Though I have worked with neurodiverse children and adults across a variety of settings for multiple decades, a personal event recommitted my focus in this area.  In 2019, I was diagnosed with cancer and underwent multiple treatments, including chemotherapy.  During this time, I experienced several adverse reactions that resulted in significant problems related to thinking, communicating, understanding, relating, and a surplus of sensory aversions that intensely interfered with my life.  These experiences heightened my empathy and interest in helping autistic individuals find accommodations, relief, and understanding as it relates to some of their daily challenges.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I am very passionate about inclusion, access, and equity.  I believe the client knows themselves and their lived experiences best, and I work to create a safe and trauma-informed space so you can share your story (and maybe some laughs!).  I hope you leave the assessment feeling heard, seen, affirmed, and that you receive useful information that helps you see your uniqueness, strengths, and recommendations for living a life in line with your values.
