About

Hello and welcome! My name is Melissa Laracuenta-Hernandez. I have been a practicing psychologist since 2006 and am licensed in both New York and Connecticut. Based in the Northeast, I have extensive experience conducting psychological assessments with children, adolescents, and adults, including evaluations for autism and other forms of neurodivergence.I believe that assessment is about much more than arriving at a diagnosis—it's an opportunity to better understand how your mind works, recognize your unique strengths, and make sense of challenges that may have felt confusing or misunderstood. My approach is warm, collaborative, and affirming. I strive to create a comfortable, supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood throughout the evaluation process.Whether you are seeking answers for yourself or a loved one, my goal is to provide a thoughtful, comprehensive assessment that offers meaningful insight and practical recommendations to support your next steps with greater clarity and confidence.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in School Clinical Child Psychology from Pace University, Master's Degree in School Psychology from Pace University. Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Marist College.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for working with individuals who are neurodivergent stems from a passion and lifelong interest in helping people to understand themselves more fully.  Those who may be neurodivergent often have various strengths. I am dedicated to helping you to figure out ways of leaning into your own strengths, and finding answers to your questions about yourself.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

In my work with every client, I focus on providing a very collaborative, space where they feel valued, seen and heard. I actively listen, take your observations about yourself and try to help you to understand how all of the pieces of the assessment come together to create an overall picture or puzzle that makes sense to you. We highlight your strengths while helping you to learn how to leverage them to adapt to the areas where you may have struggles.
