About

Hello, my name is Dr. Mo Therese (Maureen) Hannah. I’ve been practicing as a psychotherapist for over 35 years. My therapeutic style could be described as compassionate, empathic, and spiritually- as well as solution-oriented. I’m passionate about helping clients discover their strengths and realize their inherent greatness rather than just focusing on their challenges and deficits. I have devoted my entire lifetime to understanding myself and the nature of the human psyche, as I believe self-understanding and understanding others go hand in hand! I’m privileged to also have served as a psychology professor at Siena College in Loudonville, New York for the past 35 years, where I greatly enjoy teaching courses that are related to my work as a psychotherapist-- courses like Abnormal Psychology, Counseling Theories and Techniques, Trauma and Recovery and Intimate Relationships.   My specialty areas include couples/relationship therapy, trauma-informed therapy (I am EMDR- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy trained), women’s issues, domestic violence/abuse, and grief therapy.

Education & Licensure
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, University of Arizona; Master's in Counseling, University of Delaware; B.A. in Psychology, University of Arizona
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I've had the honor and pleasure of working with many neurodivergent clients and students, and I also have neurodivergent individuals as members of my nuclear family.  I learn as much from them as they do from me. Thus, I have an intimate understanding of the range of strengths and unique skills possessed by those who are neurodivergent. I am passionate about helping all individuals to maximize their potential, and I focus on strengths far more than deficits.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I firmly believe that the quality of my relationship with my client, and vice versa, is the most important element of therapeutic effectiveness. To establish a good relationship, I create a space of safety, listening, and compassion. I believe, also, in the use of humor and friendliness to make the therapeutic space not only safe but also enjoyable!
