About
Hello, and welcome! My name is Matt Fortino and I'm currently practicing in SouthWest Florida. In my free time I enjoy gardening, strength training, and juggling with friends. I currently practice within an integrated hospital settings and come with a background of training in chronic pain, pediatric assessment, medical provider education, and harm reduction. My goal is to provide research informed psychological assessments that allow clients to access individualized treatment. Access to our providers can empower clients to better understand themselves, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop tools that support a meaningful and fulfilling life.
My motivation for working with autistic and neurodivergent clients comes from a genuine desire to create a space where individuals feel seen, understood, accepted, and supported for who they are. I believe that neurodiversity brings unique perspectives and ways of experiencing the world, and I value the opportunity to support you on this journey.
I champion the ADA perspective, which asserts that people are not inherently disabled by their diagnoses, but rather by architectural, systemic, and attitudinal barriers created by society. During my training in pediatric assessment, I had a formative learning experience where I found that students who perform above average in certain domains of cognition can still meet criteria for a learning disability. I found this counterintuitive at first, but quickly learned how a one size fits all approach can act as a barrier for individuals who are deserving of every opportunity to excel. In short, I prioritize a strength based approach in my assessment process.
