About

I’m Marta DeSoto, PhD, Clinical Psychologist with a specialty in Neuropsychology. I bring a warm, curious, and deeply human approach to clinical care—one grounded in rigorous assessment, clinical experience, and a heartfelt commitment to helping neurodivergent people thrive. My work is driven by a belief that every person brings unique strengths, perspectives, and potential, and that clinical care should honor and build on those assets.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Clinical Psychology from Walden University; Post Doctoral certificate in Neuropsychology from Fielding University, CA; MA in Clinical Psychology and Addictions from University of Detroit-Mercy, Detroit, MI; BA in Psychology from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I chose this specialty because I was drawn to the richness of neurodiversity: the different ways people think, sense, and relate to the world. Over years of clinical practice and research, I have seen how traditional deficit-focused models can miss the full picture. Working with autistic and neurodivergent clients has taught me that meaningful progress comes from listening closely, learning each person’s communication style, and co-creating supports that respect identity and autonomy.  My practice centers on recognizing and amplifying strengths rather than simply treating deficits.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I begin by identifying what a person already does well—problem solving, pattern recognition, intense focus, creativity, or social honesty—and use those capacities as the foundation for growth. Interventions are practical, individualized, and respectful: we adapt environments, routines, and supports so that strengths become the pathway to greater independence, wellbeing, and self-determination. My approach is rooted in compassion, affirmation, and collaboration. I prioritize clear, respectful communication and create a predictable, low‑pressure space where clients feel safe to explore goals and try new strategies. I partner with families and other providers when helpful, always centering the client’s voice and preferences. I aim to be an ally who helps translate clinical insight into real-world solutions that honor identity and dignity.
