About
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Dr. Marlene G. Rivera Rodríguez. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and I now live in Illinois, where I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I am a bilingual psychologist that works in English and Spanish. Psychological assessment has been at the heart of my career, both with clients and as a professor training future psychologists. What drives me is seeing someone gain a clearer understanding of themselves. Seeking an evaluation takes courage, so I want you to feel heard, respected, and at ease as we work together.
I chose this work because I want adults who have been misunderstood or misdiagnosed to finally feel seen and heard. My work is grounded in liberation psychology and Adlerian psychology, which ask me to understand each person within their history and community. Through bilingual work with Spanish speaking communities, I have learned to pay close attention to who gets overlooked. Every person who comes to an evaluation deserves a process that takes their whole story seriously.
I begin with your story and what you hope to learn. I ask which words you use to describe yourself and your experiences, and I follow your lead. You are the expert on your own life, so I listen for what has helped you get through hard moments and what you value most. I also consider your culture and the ways you may have adapted to be accepted. Your strengths receive careful attention throughout the evaluation, and my recommendations build on them while honestly naming the support you may need.
