I’m Dr. Mariam Chohan, a clinical psychologist licensed in Maryland, with a background in psychological assessment and therapy. I’m especially drawn to autism evaluations because a thoughtful assessment can help you make sense of experiences that may have felt confusing or difficult to explain for years. My goal is to make the evaluation process feel collaborative, comfortable, and genuinely useful. I take the time to understand not only your challenges, but also your strengths, personality, relationships, and the ways you have learned to navigate the world. I want you to leave the process feeling understood, with greater clarity about yourself and practical information that can help guide what comes next.
I was drawn to working with autistic and neurodivergent clients because I have always been interested in the different ways people think, communicate, and experience the world. My background in autism and behavior analysis taught me the importance of looking beyond surface-level behaviors and understanding the whole person. I became especially passionate about assessment because the right evaluation can provide clarity, validation, and a framework for understanding experiences that may have gone unexplained for years. I value helping clients recognize both their challenges and their strengths, and I want the assessment process to feel respectful, collaborative, and affirming rather than clinical or impersonal.
I approach each evaluation with the belief that autism and neurodivergence are different ways of experiencing the world, not simply challenges to be corrected. I focus on understanding the whole person, including your strengths, interests, relationships, coping strategies, and the environments in which you function best. My goal is to help you make sense of your experiences without reducing you to a diagnosis. I want the process to feel collaborative, respectful, and affirming, while giving you practical insight into both your strengths and areas where additional support may be helpful.
