About

Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Maria M. Mendoza-Rodriguez, a bilingual licensed clinical psychologist licensed in Arizona and Puerto Rico. I am passionate about creating a warm, compassionate, and culturally responsive space where children, adolescents, adults, and families feel genuinely heard and understood. My clinical background includes psychological assessment, autism and neurodevelopmental evaluations, trauma-informed care, and psychotherapy. I believe every person brings a unique combination of experiences, strengths, culture, and perspectives to the therapeutic process, and my goal is to provide individualized care that helps each person better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and move toward greater well-being.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University, Puerto Rico; Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University, Puerto Rico; Specialization in Neuropsychology at Fielding Graduate University (in progress)
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My passion for working with autistic and neurodivergent individuals comes from seeing how often people can feel misunderstood or overlooked when their way of experiencing and interacting with the world differs from what others expect. I value the opportunity to help individuals and families gain a clearer, more compassionate understanding of neurodivergence while recognizing each person's strengths and individuality. As a bilingual psychologist, I am especially committed to improving access to culturally responsive autism and neurodevelopmental services for Hispanic and Spanish-speaking communities, where language, culture, and family experiences are essential parts of understanding the whole person.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My approach is affirming, compassionate, culturally responsive, and strengths-based. Rather than defining someone by a diagnosis or focusing primarily on difficulties, I seek to understand the whole person, their abilities, interests, values, culture, relationships, and unique way of experiencing the world. I believe neurodiversity is part of human variation, and my role is to help individuals better understand themselves, recognize and build on their strengths, and identify the supports and strategies that help them thrive. As a bilingual psychologist with a strong connection to the Hispanic community, I also strive to ensure that language, culture, family values, and identity are respected and meaningfully incorporated into care.
