About
Welcome! I'm Margaret Proulx, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor dedicated to helping individuals and couples navigate life's challenges with compassion, curiosity, and evidence-based care. I believe therapy is most effective when it feels like a genuine conversation—one where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.I provide telehealth therapy to clients in New York, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, and Delaware. My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and EMDR, helping clients heal from past experiences while developing practical skills to manage anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, and life's many transitions.I have a special passion for working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD and autism. I understand that every brain works differently, and I strive to create a space where clients don't have to mask who they are. Together, we'll build on your strengths, develop strategies that work for your unique mind, and help you move toward the life you want.Outside of therapy, you'll usually find me spending time with my wonderfully busy household of five cats and three dogs. They've taught me a great deal about patience, unconditional acceptance, and finding joy in the little moments which are qualities I bring into my work with clients every day. My goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking to better understand yourself, I'm here to help you build resilience, strengthen your confidence, and create meaningful, lasting change.Seeking therapy is a courageous first step, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they discover new ways to heal, grow, and thrive.
My passion for working with autistic and neurodivergent adults comes from a deep belief that people shouldn't have to change who they are to be accepted or understood. Too many neurodivergent individuals have spent years masking, feeling misunderstood, or believing they are "too much" or "not enough." I wanted to create a space where clients can set that burden down and be met with genuine curiosity, acceptance, and compassion. As a therapist, I view neurodivergence as a natural variation in how our brains experience and interact with the world and not something that needs to be "fixed." My role is to help you better understand yourself, recognize and embrace your strengths, navigate challenges in ways that work for your unique brain, and build a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.I also recognize that many neurodivergent adults have experienced anxiety, trauma, burnout, or years of feeling like they had to fit into environments that weren't designed with them in mind. My approach is collaborative, affirming, and practical. Together, we'll identify strategies that support your goals while honoring your individual needs, values, and ways of thinking. It is a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they build self-understanding, self-compassion, and confidence. I believe that feeling truly seen and accepted can be one of the most powerful parts of the healing process, and I'm committed to creating a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe to be your authentic self.
I believe the best therapy begins by recognizing that you are the expert on your own life. My role isn't to tell you who you should do, however, it's to help you better understand yourself, build on your natural strengths, and develop tools that support the life you want to live.I take a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach that focuses on understanding your unique way of thinking, communicating, processing emotions, and experiencing the world. Rather than viewing differences as deficits, we work together to identify what helps you thrive, honor your sensory and emotional needs, and find strategies that align with your values instead of trying to fit into someone else's expectations. Many of my clients come to therapy carrying years of self-doubt, masking, people-pleasing, or feeling like they have to work harder just to keep up. Therapy provides an opportunity to replace self-criticism with self-understanding and self-compassion. Together, we'll celebrate your strengths, navigate challenges with curiosity instead of judgment, and build practical skills that support meaningful, sustainable change. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I understand the importance of finding a therapist who offers an affirming, inclusive, and genuinely safe space. I strive to create an environment where every aspect of your identity is welcomed and respected, and where you can explore your experiences without fear of judgment.Whether we're working through anxiety, trauma, burnout, life transitions, or simply learning to embrace your authentic self, my hope is that you'll leave each session feeling more understood, more empowered, and more confident in who you are—not because you've changed who you are, but because you've learned to appreciate and trust yourself more fully.
