Marcy Porritt
About
Hello I am glad you have chosen to learn more about yourself. My name is Marcy Porritt. I am genderqueer but will identify as a trans woman when I need to fit into a binary. For me the purpose of assessment and therapy is to gain understanding into the relationships in your life including relationships with yourself, other people and the wider community. I find it particularly important to examine one’s position in oppressive systems and the way that impacts our self concept and other relationships. When you are with me you are the expert in you and your experience. We will work together with the goal of empowerment through the creation of greater self compassion.
Growing up as a neurodiverse individual in the 1990’s I felt that neurodiverse people were misunderstood and mistreated. I pursed higher education in psychology so I could be a better advocate. I have worked with the Autistic community since 2008. In that time I have had the privilege of working across the lifespan from children as young as 18 months up to elderly adults. I have witnessed the need for adult services first hand. I find it particularly rewarding to provide an empowering diagnosis for adults who are often struggling to achieve their idea of success without understanding why.
I have experienced life as a neuroqueer/genderqueer individual. I understand that everyone’s experiences are unique and hope that my personal experience can facilitate a relationship that feels warm and safe. My primary focus is replacing internalized stigma with self compassion and informed empowerment. I understand the limits of my knowledge and expertise and strive to collaborate with you on shared goals that you have chosen. Mindfulness and self compassion are my primary tools.
