About
Hello and welcome—I’m really glad you found your way here. My name is Lori Stalcar, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 18 years of experience supporting individuals across a wide range of life experiences, from everyday stressors to complex mental health and life transitions. I am based in Colorado and have spent much of my career working at the intersection of clinical care, community impact, and systems-level change. What truly drives me as a therapist is both my professional journey and my personal one. I became a therapist, in part, because of my own family’s experience navigating mental health challenges and the difficulty of finding the right kind of support when it mattered most. That experience continues to shape the way I show up—with deep empathy, honesty, and a genuine commitment to making sure you feel seen, heard, and valued. My background includes working in outpatient therapy, medication-assisted treatment settings, corrections, and with individuals who are neurodivergent or living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I also bring leadership experience in program development and trauma-informed care, which allows me to see both the individual and the larger systems impacting their lives. In our work together, I take a strengths-based, collaborative approach grounded in evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and motivational interviewing. But more than any specific approach, I focus on creating a space where you can be real—where you don’t have to filter, perform, or carry things alone.Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, substance use, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck, I will meet you where you are. My goal is to walk alongside you as you build insight, reconnect with your strengths, and create a path forward that feels meaningful and sustainable.Your story matters—and it would be an honor to be part of your journey. 💜
My “why” is both professional and deeply personal. Over the years, I found myself consistently drawn to individuals who experienced the world differently—those who felt misunderstood, overlooked, or asked to fit into spaces that were never designed with them in mind. In my work across community mental health, corrections, and with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I saw how often neurodivergent individuals were met with frustration instead of curiosity, and compliance-based expectations instead of true understanding. That never sat right with me.What led me to specialize in working with autistic and neurodivergent clients is a genuine respect for neurodiversity and a belief that difference is not something to be “fixed,” but understood and supported. I’ve witnessed how powerful it can be when someone is finally given permission to be themselves—without masking, without shame, and without the pressure to conform to neurotypical standards.I also recognize how exhausting it can be to navigate a world that doesn’t always make space for your needs. My goal is to offer a therapeutic relationship where you don’t have to work so hard just to be understood. I focus on creating an environment that is predictable, respectful, and collaborative—where we can explore your experiences, build tools that actually work for you, and honor the strengths that often come with neurodivergence. At the heart of it, I chose this path because I believe everyone deserves to feel safe in their own mind and valued for who they are—not in spite of their differences, but because of them. 💜
My approach is rooted in the belief that you are not broken—you are navigating life with a unique set of experiences, strengths, and ways of being that deserve to be understood and honored. Rather than focusing on what’s “wrong,” I focus on helping you recognize what’s already working, even if it doesn’t always feel that way.I take a strengths-based, affirming approach by getting to know you as a whole person—not just your challenges, but your resilience, your values, your patterns, and the ways you’ve adapted to get through difficult moments. Together, we build on those strengths in a way that feels natural and sustainable for you. This might look like identifying how your mind works best, finding tools that align with your natural rhythms, or reframing experiences in a way that brings clarity and self-compassion instead of shame.I am especially mindful of the impact that systems, environments, and past experiences can have on how you see yourself. Many of my clients have spent years feeling misunderstood or “not enough.” In our work, we gently shift that narrative—creating space for self-acceptance, curiosity, and growth without pressure to change who you are at your core.As someone who has worked extensively with neurodivergent individuals and diverse populations across clinical and community settings, I bring both professional knowledge and genuine respect for different ways of thinking, processing, and experiencing the world. My role is not to mold you into someone else’s idea of “functioning,” but to support you in becoming more fully yourself—with confidence, clarity, and compassion. At every step, I aim to create a space where you feel safe to explore, empowered to grow, and supported in realizing your full potential—on your terms. 💜
