About
Hello, my name is Dr. Laura Rencher, a licensed psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia. I have more than 26 years of experience working with adults in clinical and assessment settings.I believe that a thoughtful evaluation involves more than determining whether someone meets diagnostic criteria. It is also an opportunity to understand the experiences, strengths, challenges, and adaptations that have shaped a person over time.I bring curiosity, compassion, and respect to the assessment process. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and feel genuinely heard and understood. I recognize that seeking an autism evaluation as an adult can be an important step toward making sense of experiences that may have been difficult to understand or explain in the past. I hope the assessment process provides not only diagnostic clarity, but also a more meaningful understanding of yourself and the unique ways you experience and navigate the world.
I have always been interested in understanding why people think, feel, and experience the world differently. Over the course of my career, I have become increasingly interested in neurodiversity and in the many ways neurodevelopmental differences can shape a person’s experiences throughout their life.I am particularly drawn to working with adults who may have spent years feeling different or struggling to understand why certain aspects of life seem more difficult for them than for others. What draws me to adult autism assessment is the opportunity to help people make sense of those experiences within the context of their whole life. I value the opportunity to listen carefully to each person’s story, recognize both their challenges and strengths, and help provide a clearer and more compassionate understanding of how their brain works.
I approach assessment with the belief that differences should be understood in context rather than viewed simply as deficits. I want to understand not only what may be difficult for you, but also the strengths, abilities, and adaptations you have developed throughout your life.I recognize that many adults seeking an autism evaluation have spent years trying to meet expectations that may not have fit naturally with how they experience and interact with the world. During the assessment process, I strive to provide a comfortable, affirming environment where you can describe your experiences openly without feeling judged or pressured to present yourself in a particular way.My goal is to listen carefully and understand the whole person. By considering your strengths alongside areas of difficulty, I hope the evaluation helps you recognize and appreciate the ways you have learned to navigate your life and provides a clearer understanding of what you may need to function and thrive in ways that are authentic to you.
