About

I’m Dr. L. Winley, a licensed clinical psychologist based in North Carolina, and I provide care to adults across multiple states through PSYPACT. I specialize in comprehensive psychological assessment and work with you when you’re seeking clarity, understanding, and an accurate diagnosis. My goal is to support your insight and self-understanding in a way that feels affirming and grounded, offering clarity without reducing you to a diagnosis.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology at NLU, Chicago, Illinois; MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina; BA & BS in Psychology and Child Development and Family Relations from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for specializing in work with autistic/neurodivergent adults comes from recognizing how often you may have been misunderstood, mischaracterized, or left without clear explanations that reflect your lived reality. Many people move through systems of care sensing that something doesn’t quite fit, yet never receive language or clarity that helps them make sense of their experiences.I’m committed to this work because I believe accurate understanding matters. When neurodivergence is recognized and named with care and respect, it can offer relief, validation, and a clearer sense of self, rather than confusion or limitation. Supporting that kind of clarity is what continues to draw me to this work.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I work from an affirming, strengths-based approach that centers you within your relational, cultural, and lived context. I pay close attention to how you’ve adapted, connected, and persisted over time, often in environments that may not have fully understood or supported you. Rather than focusing on what’s missing or not working, I look for the strengths and patterns that have helped you navigate your life.In assessment, I approach our work together as collaborative and transparent. I aim to create a space where you feel respected, accurately understood, and affirmed in who you are. I’m attentive to identity, power, and lived experience, and my goal is to offer clarity in a way that preserves your dignity, supports self-trust, and helps you move forward with greater agency.
