About

Hello! My name is Khayla Hernandez. I currently live in Southern California, though I’m originally from the Bay Area. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with resilience, self-compassion, and a deeper understanding of themselves. My work is grounded in the belief that healing begins when people feel truly seen, heard, and supported in a safe, nonjudgmental space. My approach is warm, collaborative, and a little quirky. I strive to create an environment where you feel comfortable exploring your experiences at your own pace while gaining insight and tools that support meaningful change. What drives me most is witnessing the moment when someone begins to feel empowered in their own story and when challenges start to feel more manageable.

Education & Licensure
Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University Worldwide; Bachelors in Psychology and Minor in Biology from University of California, Irvine
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My interest in working with neurodivergent clients comes from my experience supporting adolescents in school-based mental health settings. I’ve seen how many neurodivergent individuals are often misunderstood or expected to fit into systems that were not designed with their needs in mind. This has deepened my commitment to creating a supportive and accepting space where clients can feel understood rather than judged. I value a strengths-based and compassionate approach that honors each person’s unique way of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world. My goal is to help clients better understand their emotions, develop practical coping tools, and build confidence in navigating daily life while embracing their unique individuality.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I take an affirming, strengths-based approach by getting to know what matters most to you and building from there. I meet you where you are and use your interests—like music, art, movement, pets, hobbies, or aspects of your culture—as a way to develop coping skills and explore strategies that feel natural and meaningful to you. Together, we can identify tools and approaches that align with your values, fit your life, and highlight your strengths, to help you feel more confident, supported, and empowered in your everyday experiences.
