About

Hello and welcome! I’m Keni Hines, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with licensure in both North Carolina and Virginia. I’m passionate about helping people feel heard, recognize their strengths, and move forward when life feels overwhelming. My experience supporting children and adults, along with my work in community advocacy and nonprofit leadership, has shaped my commitment to understanding the whole person—their story, relationships, challenges, and hopes for the future.I bring warmth, honesty, and a collaborative approach to therapy. I believe you deserve a space where you can be yourself, talk openly without judgment, and receive support that is meaningful to your everyday life. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, family challenges, or a difficult transition, we’ll work together to understand what you’re experiencing and build practical tools that fit your needs. My approach makes room for compassion, honest conversations, and encouragement as you work toward the changes that matter to you. You don’t have to have everything figured out before we begin. We can start where you are and take the next steps together.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My interest in working with autistic and neurodivergent clients has grown through my work as a therapist and my experiences advocating for people whose needs are often misunderstood. I have seen how deeply it matters for individuals and families to feel heard and have their experiences taken seriously. Those experiences drive me to create a compassionate space where clients can express themselves comfortably, explore their needs, and recognize their strengths.I believe meaningful support begins with understanding each person’s perspective, communication preferences, and goals. Whether we’re working through anxiety, navigating overwhelming situations, strengthening relationships, or building self-advocacy skills, I want our work to reflect what matters to the client. My goal is to help each person feel more confident in who they are, more comfortable expressing what they need, and supported in building a life that feels meaningful to them.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I begin by getting to know each client’s strengths, interests, values, and the ways they feel most comfortable expressing themselves. I listen with curiosity and compassion, validate their experiences, and help them recognize abilities and accomplishments they may have overlooked. Together, we build on those strengths to support goals that are personally meaningful to them. For me, an affirming approach means respecting each person’s identity, culture, communication style, and sensory needs. I adapt the pace and structure of our work to support comfort, choice, and participation, and I welcome feedback about what feels helpful. I celebrate progress according to each client’s priorities, recognizing that growth looks different for everyone. My commitment is to help clients feel valued as they are, trust their own voices, and recognize their capacity to learn, connect, and pursue a fulfilling life.
