About

I'm Dr. Katie Penry, a licensed clinical psychologist living on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay in Fairhope, Alabama. I've been doing this work for over 15 years, and what I love most is the moment when the pieces fall into place and someone finally feels seen and heard. I believe understanding your mind, brain, functioning shouldn't feel like a mystery you're locked out of. I'm licensed in Alabama and PSYPACT-authorized to see clients across 40+ states.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I went down the path of focussing on diagnostics because many of my clients spent years being told they weren't trying hard enough, weren't organized enough, weren't enough, when really, they just had brains that worked differently. I specialize in ADHD and neurodivergent assessment in particular because I believe everyone deserves to understand and share their experience if they desire. I take a strengths-based approach, which means I'm not here to catalog what's "wrong" with you. I'm here to help you see how your brain actually operates—the challenges and the gifts—so you can finally stop fighting yourself and start working with what you have.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

Traditional assessments tend to focus on deficits—what you can't do, where you struggle, what's "impaired." I take a different approach. Yes, we'll talk about the hard stuff, but I'm equally interested in your strengths, your creativity, the ways your brain does things other people's can't. Those aren't consolation prizes, they're real, and they matter!
