About
Hello, I’m Dr. Kari Tervo. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in psychological assessments. I enjoy providing assessments because I can help people identify therapy goals. Assessment can help to provide targets for developing more effective emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. That’s accomplished by identifying your strengths and weaknesses in a direct and non-judgmental fashion. This can provide you with a sense of clarity, relief, and a path to move forward towards your better life satisfaction. When it comes right down to it, I really like talking with people! That’s why I take a conversational approach to assessment. In order to make you feel comfortable, I might even ask you about your favorite pop culture content (heard any good songs lately?). It’s all about getting to know you, your interests, and your feelings and preferences. Each person brings their own unique background and circumstances. I’d like to find out more about you in a positive and non-judgmental environment in order to help you meet your life goals.
I want to provide a positive environment for people who are neurodivergent in order to demonstrate that there are accepting and caring spaces where you can be yourself. You deserve to be received with compassion and understanding, and you deserve to have your unique perspective heard.
You might think that people go to psychologists just to identify their problems, but one of my favorite parts of assessment is telling people what their strengths are. Everyone brings strengths—yes, everyone! You have your own set of experiences, feelings, preferences, background, and attitudes, and they can and should be identified as a basis for increasing your life satisfaction. My goal is for you to recognize not only areas of difficulty, but the awesome things about you.On that note, I have developed a strategy called the Awesome Resume, which is based on cognitive-behavioral strategies. The idea is that you list what you and others like about you in categories like Personal Qualities, Talents, Tastes, and Accomplishments. You can review it regularly or on a bad day--it serves as a reminder of your strengths! It’s like a LinkedIn for your confidence. An autism assessment can uncover some strengths to help build your Awesome Resume! I look forward to helping you identify your strengths and affirming that your unique nature makes you a neat person.
