About

Hello and Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Brad Torrence and am currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia. I have been in social work in various roles for almost 15 years and have been providing outpatient therapy for five years. During this time I have learned that everyone has a unique story that shapes them. I am passionate about hearing yours in a space where you feel safe and welcome to share at a pace that you decide. Engaging in therapy may feel overwhelming, but it can also be a freeing experience to feel acknowledged and appreciated without judgement. Whatever you are going through, I believe having someone you can trust to turn to is the beginning of discovering where you already shine and maybe some areas where we can learn to improve.  I am excited to meet you right where you are.

Education & Licensure
Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Virginia Commonwealth University; Bachelors of Education (Communication Disorders) from the University of Virginia
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for working with autistic/neurodivergent clients is because I know life can sometimes be hard when you feel different. Whether experiencing a different way to communicate, feel emotions, or react to a world that may not understand, I love getting to learn all the individual ways someone approaches their own way of doing life. Throughout my 15 years in social work and outpatient therapy I have collaborated consistently with people with autism/neurodivergence and have learned each person is unique in how they view and approach the world. I would love to hear your ideas on what works for you and share ways to help in any areas you may feel confused about.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I prioritize an affirming and strengths-based approach by starting with what is working. We all have areas we can improve on, but can sometimes miss so many parts that are successful. I believe recognizing and highlighting our strengths and abilities helps build confidence to address these problem areas we may feel powerless to control. Appreciating our gifts and talents is empowering and I want to hear what yours are and start there!
