About
Hello and welcome! My name is Dr. Joshua Ireland. I live in Santa Clara County and am a licensed psychologist in California. My background includes psychological assessment across the lifespan, with particular experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and their families better understand individual strengths, developmental needs, and areas where additional support may be helpful.I am driven by the belief that every person deserves to be understood as a whole individual, not simply through a diagnosis or set of test results. I approach each evaluation with curiosity, compassion, and respect for the individual’s lived experience. My goal is to make the assessment process comfortable and collaborative while providing clear, meaningful information that families and care teams can use to make informed decisions and identify appropriate supports.
I was drawn to working with neurodivergent individuals because the right understanding can profoundly change how a person is seen, supported, and understood, including how they understand themselves. Too often, differences are viewed only as problems to be corrected, while the individual’s strengths, perspectives, and ways of experiencing the world are overlooked.I value the opportunity to listen carefully, look beyond assumptions, and help create a fuller and more respectful understanding of each person. Through my work, I hope to provide individuals, families, and care teams with greater clarity and practical guidance, while honoring each person’s dignity, autonomy, strengths, and unique support needs.
I begin by listening carefully and approaching each person with curiosity, compassion, and respect. Rather than defining someone by a diagnosis or focusing solely on areas of difficulty, I work to understand the whole person, including their abilities, interests, values, relationships, culture, and unique way of experiencing the world.Throughout the evaluation process, I look for strengths that can serve as foundations for growth, connection, and greater independence. I also strive to ensure that individuals and families feel heard and actively involved in the process. My goal is to provide an affirming and balanced understanding of each person, along with practical recommendations that build upon what is already working and support them in pursuing a meaningful life on their own terms.
