About

Hello and welcome! I’m glad you’re here.My name is Joseph Saravia. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC Master-G) licensed in New York with nearly two decades of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I am passionate about helping individuals better understand themselves, overcome challenges, and build lives that are aligned with their values and goals. My work is driven by the belief that every person has unique strengths and the capacity for growth, even during life's most difficult moments. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to be themselves and explore what matters most to them. I have extensive experience supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, substance use issues, life transitions, and neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. My goal is to work collaboratively with you, helping you develop practical skills, increase self-awareness, and create meaningful change that lasts beyond the therapy room. Whether you are seeking support for a specific challenge or looking to better understand yourself, I am committed to meeting you where you are and helping you move forward with confidence and hope.

Education & Licensure

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My passion for working with autistic and neurodivergent individuals comes from a deep belief that people deserve to be understood, accepted, and supported for who they are rather than being expected to fit into a one-size-fits-all model of thinking and functioning. Throughout my career as a therapist, I have worked with many individuals who have spent years feeling misunderstood, judged, or discouraged because their experiences did not align with societal expectations. I am continually inspired by the unique strengths, creativity, insight, and resilience that neurodivergent individuals bring to the world. My approach is grounded in respect, curiosity, and collaboration, helping clients better understand themselves, build confidence, navigate challenges, and develop strategies that work for their individual needs. I strive to create a safe, affirming, and supportive environment where clients can explore their experiences without fear of judgment. My goal is not to change who someone is, but to help them recognize their strengths, embrace their identity, and build a meaningful life aligned with their values and goals. Together, we can work toward greater self-understanding, improved well-being, and a stronger sense of empowerment in everyday life.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I bring an affirming and strengths-based approach to therapy by focusing on each individual's abilities, resilience, values, and potential rather than defining them by diagnoses, symptoms, or challenges. I believe that every person has strengths that can be built upon to create meaningful and lasting change, even when they may have difficulty recognizing those strengths themselves. My role is to help clients identify what is already working, develop greater self-awareness, and use their existing skills and resources to overcome obstacles and move toward their goals.I strive to create a compassionate, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. I recognize that each person's experiences, identity, culture, and neurotype are unique, and I tailor treatment to honor those differences. When working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other learning or executive functioning differences, I utilize a neurodiversity-affirming perspective that emphasizes understanding, self-acceptance, and leveraging strengths rather than focusing solely on deficits.Through collaboration, validation, and evidence-based interventions, I help clients build confidence, increase psychological flexibility, strengthen coping skills, and develop practical strategies that support success in relationships, work, school, and daily life. My goal is to empower clients to recognize their capabilities, embrace their authentic selves, and create a life that aligns with their values and aspirations.
