Joey Caggiano
About
Hello and welcome! I am so glad you found your way here. My name is Joey Caggiano, and I live right here in Orlando, Florida. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Florida and Ohio. I have spent many years working in the mental health field, but my perspective is also deeply shaped by the time I spent working in various roles within law enforcement. I am not your typical clinical robot who just nods and takes notes. I navigate the world in a wheelchair, and I navigate my therapy sessions with a lot of humor, a deep appreciation for classic rock, and zero judgment. If you are a neurodivergent adult who is exhausted from the constant pressure to mask and perform for a neurotypical world, I want you to know this is a safe space for you. Maybe it is finally time to stop trying to be the Man of Steel or the Amazonian Princess for everyone else and simply be Clark Kent or Diana Prince. I am here to be your travel guide as we tackle burnout, anxiety, and the general weight of the world together.
My passion for working with the neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ communities comes from a very personal place of lived experience. I live with Cerebral Palsy, which was the result of a brain injury at birth. For a long time, the world tried to define me by what it thought I could not do. In fact, for a long time, I felt like the bumbling Clark Kent, constantly tripping over my own feet and trying to hide my true self just to fit in. My path became even clearer during my time as an intern at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. I served in a supportive role during the aftermath of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, and witnessing the strength of the community fueled my desire to provide mental health support for those who often feel unseen. I realized that having a brain that processes information uniquely is not a deficit at all. It is a superpower. Whether you resonate with the transformation of She-Ra, the resilience of a classic rock anthem, or the found family vibes of the X-Men, I want to provide that same sense of total safety you deserve. I want to create a space where you feel safe enough to stop hiding and start thriving exactly as you are.
You know that Coldplay song called Fix You? Well, we are not going to do that here because you are not broken. Instead, I think of the song Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. All that you need is in your soul. I believe that every single client is the ultimate expert in their own life. You essentially have a PhD in yourself, and my role is simply to help you bring out your own inner therapist. I am a Certified DBT Professional and a Certified Autism Clinical Specialist through Evergreen Certifications. My approach is a curious blend of Internal Family Systems, which helps us understand the different parts of your personality, along with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and skill building for real world challenges. I love using my style of Ifs to spark growth. If we approach your challenges with curiosity instead of criticism, what changes for you? If we stop trying to force your personality into a square hole and instead find the right soundtrack for your journey, what does your version of success actually look like? Everyone deserves a therapist who treats them with genuine compassion and looks at their differences as strengths rather than symptoms. My goal is to help you realize that you do not need a cape to be a hero. You just need to be yourself.
