About

Hello, my name is Joanne.  I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of clinical experience.  I am licensed to practice in Colorado, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. I have been working with neurodivergent persons for over 25 years.  I believe in a person centered approach to treatment; one size does not fit all.  My role is to support and help you navigate any life challenges you are experiencing.  I want to also help you find the most effective ways to manage those challenges.  I have extensive experience treating persons with OCD, ADHD, Executive functioning disorders, learning issues, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, Trauma, Identity issues, life transitions, and workplace stressors.  I will use a variety of interventions to help you, including but not limited to:  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Informed Therapy, motivational interviewing, social cognitive therapy, social skills training, job coaching, and integrative therapy.  Most importantly, I will meet you where you are at and treatment will focus on your individual needs.  My goal is to focus on what you need and want in order for you to be the best version of yourself.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Organizational Behavioral Psychology, Walden University; Graduate Certificate in Behavioral Interventions in Autism, University of Massachusetts, Lowell; Masters in Clinical Social Work, The Catholic University of America; B.A. in Political Science/History, The George Washington University
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for working with neurodivergent persons is rooted in my work with learning disabled persons.  Thirty years ago, no one knew what neurodivergence was; there was a group of persons who were not learning disabled but very intelligent who just struggled with social skills and social communication.  Many neurodivergent persons were misidentified in the schools and in mental health.  I was impassioned to become an advocate to ensure that they had a voice, received proper support and programming within communities, and receive the clinical interventions that served their unique needs.  My goal continues to be a voice, an advocate, and a therapist that supports neurodivergent persons by providing quality holistic care.  I also strive for such persons to utilize their strengths fully and develop the necessary skills to lead meaningful lives with personal efficacy and success.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I strongly utilize a person centered approach to treatment that allows clients to direct their own care.  Each person should feel empowered to be their own expert on their own life.  Every individual deserves to achieve self-actualization and feel motivated to achieve personal success and independence based on their own potential.  My goals is to provide a safe environment where my clients feel accepted, understood, and supported for being themselves.
