Intro
Hello. My name is Joanne Choi and I am a licensed psychologist from Hermosa Beach, California. I have been working with individuals, both children and adults, on the autism spectrum for over a decade. I received my Master’s degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Applied Behavior Analysis and worked as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). I developed behavior-based interventions and worked with individuals diagnosed with autism providing ABA therapy for many years before continuing my education and receiving my Doctor of Psychology degree. I have received extensive training in diagnosing individuals with autism including focused training when evaluating adult females.
My journey into the world of autism began in 2013 when my son received his autism diagnosis. As a mother and professional, I’ve seen how much potential can be overlooked when neurodivergent individuals are not given the space to be themselves, and that fuels my commitment to this work.
I believe that everyone deserves the chance to feel safe, understood, and supported, especially those whose voices are too often misunderstood or unheard. I strive to be someone who listens without judgment, advocates with intention, and uplifts with empathy. For me, it’s about walking alongside each person, not in front of them, honoring their individuality and helping create a world where differences are not just accepted, but genuinely valued. My efforts are not only professional but as a mother, it’s personal.
